ALL IT TAKES IS A BIT OF GRAFT

Since 1977, thousands of LWM volunteers have given almost 200,000 hours at National Trust properties all over Britain, passing on traditional skills like hedge-laying & path building to people like you each month, on our bargain days & weekends away. We’re about getting hands dirty & seeing new places. Rolling parkland or rugged landscapes, we’ve done it all, making lifelong friends & more, every time giving something back to the places that inspire us all. With all that work, no-one will blink when you take seconds of pudding…LWM & you – can you picture it?

Roots

Like the Trust, we began as independent friends working to keep green spaces available to all. That simple aim & some long friendships grew our numbers & our network of National Trust Rangers around London & beyond, in exchange for work outdoors. LWM’s small friendly teams work most weekends, behind the scenes of those old places & build on that bold legacy.

Events

LWM’s one & two day events bring old friends & new faces to work as a team with experienced, knowledgeable National Trust Rangers who give training, provide tools & safety gear, & bunks for weekends. You just need to get there (with basic kit), & we sort the rest. We’ll even cook you dinner & breakfast if you stay over, & usually a cup of tea in bed!Come & be one of the unsung heroes.

Start Something

Book a free day task, or a £10 weekend. You just need to get there (with basic kit), & we sort the rest. We all work at our own pace & figure out how to do the task together, and every hour builds to rewards & a free National Trust volunteer card! You might even get to live for the weekend on a closed Trust estate…Come & see what keeps us coming back.
